Summary
The job of Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing support and expertise to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing student success in academics (e.g. language arts, mathematics, science, history, etc.) or skills (e.g. art, music, physical education, etc.); developing lesson plans and delivering group and/or individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom management procedures; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress. Must complete ELLC training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The individual who holds this position must be able to:
Provide instruction to students
Create and implement a classroom disciplinary plan
Create lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction
Participate in building, grade level and subject area committees
Participate in professional development activities
Maintain accurate student records including attendance, grades and discipline
Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner
Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns
Participate as a member of an IEP team, 504 team or other student assistance teams as requested
Implement special educational plans such as 504 plans, individual educational programs and individual health plans
Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy
Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher
Subject area teachers may have additional duties and responsibilities
Other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills
Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: instructional skills; preparing and maintaining accurate records; planning and managing projects; and using pertinent software applications.
Knowledge
Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: techniques and strategies for effective teaching; appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; adolescent development; lesson plan requirements; and behavioral management strategies.
Ability
Required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.

Experience: Job related experience is preferred but not required
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Certificates: Missouri Teacher's Certificate with appropriate endorsement
